Abstract
Ankylosis of temporomandibular joint(TMJ) most frequently occurs after trauma. infection. and inadequate surgical treatment. And, it is well known that intra-articular ankylosis of ¢¥I¢¥M] is even more common than extra-articular ankylosis.
In this report, we experienced a case of a 20-year-old female with extra-articular fibrous ankylosis of ¢¥I¢¥MJ suspected to be caused by facial infection in parotid area, After active physical therapy following surgical intervention, we obtained favorable results, not only functionally but also esthetically.
Thc authors try to explain thc facial infection as one of the possible causes of extra-articular fibrous ankylosis, presenting this rare case with literature review.
